GMC Envoy Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the right rear parking brake cable on GMC Envoy?
    A:
The first step when replacing the right rear park brake cable on 2004-2006 chevrolet colorado and gmc canyon vehicles is releasing the park brake followed by raising the vehicle. Begin the replacement by unscrewing the adjusting nut for the park brake followed by disconnecting the front park brake cable from the equalizer before eliminating the right park brake cable from its connections to both equalizer and the left frame rail retainers on short and long wheel base trucks. The installation of the right park brake cable requires removing two fasteners from the right park brake cable bracket and the retaining nut at the right spring bracket followed by removing the cable from its retaining bracket and crossmember. Proceed to remove the right park brake cable retaining bolts that are present on both the right rear frame rail and the rear Brake Shoes. The installation requires the park brake cable release tool (J 37043) for backing plate cable removal. The installation begins with placing the park cable inside the backing plate followed by putting back the rear brake shoes and connecting the park brake cable to the rear spring retaining bracket so tighten the retaining nut to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The right rear frame rail park brake cable retaining bolts need to be fastened to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) torque along with securing the cable connection to the crossmember and both left frame rail retainers where all related bolts require 9 nm (80 inch lbs.) tightness. Before lowering the vehicle it is necessary to attach the park brake cable to the equalizer while reinstalling the front park brake cable before adjusting the park brakes.
