To replace the lower Intake Manifold, you will need to collect useful tools: torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Start by pulling out the upper Intake Manifold, then follow with engine left and right side valve rocker arm covers. Dismantle the wiring harness from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor while providing a masking tape label on each
Fuel Injector wiring harness connector for identification purpose. Then disconnect and remove the Fuel Injector, manifold air pressure (MAP), and ect wiring harness then remove the fuel feed and return pipe from Fuel Injector rail then lastly the Fuel Injector rail. Do not disconnect the power steering pipes/hoses from the
Power Steering Pump; rather, take out the Power Steering Pump from the front engine cover and place it beside. The heater inlet pipe with heater hose and the inlet
Radiator Hose off the engine, and the thermostat bypass hose off the lower Intake Manifold pipe. Take off the lower Intake Manifold bolts and the lower Intake Manifold, loosen the rocker arms on the valves and take out the push rods. Remove the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals and clean the gasket and seal surfaces on the cylinder heads and engine block. Examine the lower Intake Manifold, and take off ect sensor and thermostat if replacing it. For installation apply an 8 - 12mm (0.08 - 0.11 inch) bead of rtv sealer gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433) to the ridge where front and rear of the lower Intake Manifold meet the engine block and install the lower Intake Manifold gaskets. Apply small bead of rtv sealer gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433) to the Intake Manifold block joint and a drop to the four corners of the Intake Manifold to block joint. With the gaskets in place, apply a small. In use the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to tighten the valve rocker arm bolts to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.) with an addition of 30 degrees and then install the lower Intake Manifold and its bolt by tightening it in sequence to 13 nm (115 inch lbs.). Join the thermostat bypass hose, inlet Radiator Hose, and heater inlet pipe with heater hose to the lower Intake Manifold. Install the Power Steering Pump, fuel injector rail and attach the fuel feed and return pipe for the Fuel Injector rail. Make sure that the Fuel Injector wiring harness connectors are associated with their respective Fuel Injector to prevent increased exhaust emissions and low engine performance. Finally, plug the Fuel Injector, ect and map wiring harnesses and reconnect the ect wires to the ect sensor and secure reverse the right and left side and valve rocker arm covers before securing the upper Intake Manifold.
