The first procedure when replacing the shift lever in an automatic transmission requires sir system disconnection. The shift lever seal should be moved upwards towards the shift lever before the steering column trim covers are removed if necessary. The connector at the column base needs to be detached while removing the screw which secures the shift lever assembly to the column. Remove the shift lever and seal from the column while moving the shift lever seal through the narrow area of the shift lever. Proceed by fitting the shift lever seal onto the thin part of the shift lever assembly before mounting the assembly. Tighten the shift lever screw that belongs to the shift lever assembly to a torque of 1.5 nm (13 lb in). Move the shift lever seal downward along the shift lever assembly until it reaches the alignment with steering column trim covers. Reinstall the steering column trim covers before you enable the sir system if needed.
