Chevrolet Suburban 1500 ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the ABS Control Module on Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A:
Initiating ABS Control Module (ABSCM) service and repair begins with negative Battery Cable disconnection and protecting the electronic hydraulic control unit (EHCU) area from loose dirt to preserve the cleanliness of the abs components during all disassembly steps. First wash thoroughly any contaminants from the ehcu area and afterward separate the abscm electrical connectors. Release the three bracket securing bolts on the frame rail of the ehcu mounting bracket for access to remove the four mounting screws which connect the abscm to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV). Take out the abscm from the bpmv by applying gentle pressure because heavy force could harm the abscm component. Clean both surfaces that abscm and bpmv are mounted to using a clean cloth. The new abscm installation requires fresh screws instead of old hardware and professionals should not apply any sealants at either the abscm gasket or mating surfaces. The bpmv requires the abscm to be installed and secured through four new screws tightened to 5 n.m (39 lb in) in an x-pattern. Complete the abscm installation by reconnecting the electrical connectors to the abscm and the negative Battery Cable after reassembling and tightening the mounting bolts of ehcu bracket to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Complete calibration of tire size requires using the scan tool tire size calibration function before returning to diagnostic starting point.
Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A:
You must disconnect the negative battery cable first but maintain an area without loose dirt beside the EHCU because dampening of ABS parts during disassembly is possible. Clean all pollutants from around the EHCU before unconnecting electrical connectors from the ABS Control Module unit. The bolts securing the EHCU mounting bracket to the frame rail can be unfastened and relaxed to allow maneuvering the EHCU downward toward the BPMV where the ABS Control Module mounting screws are located. Before installing the ABS Control Module into the BPMV use gentle pressure only and avoid applying exceeding force that could harm the ABS Control Module. Wipe all mounting surfaces of the BPMV with clean cloth pieces. New screws need to be used for installing a new ABS Control Module and no sealants or RTV solution should be applied to gaskets or mating surfaces of the ABS Control Module. Place the ABS Control Module on the BPMV while tightening new screws at 5 Nm (39 inch lbs.) through an X-pattern. First reconnect the ABS Control Module electrical connectors and also retighten or reinstall the EHCU bracket mounting bolts at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable. The tire calibration must be revised through the Scan Tool Tire Size Calibration function before returning back to the Diagnostic Starting Point of the Antilock Brake System.
