Starting the replacement of negative battery cables for 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l, and 8.1l engines requires disconnecting the cable then possibly removing the left front wheel house panel. The process to replace the negative cable requires removal of the Power Steering Pump bracket bolt and bracket on 4.8l, 5.3l, or 6.0l engines and disconnecting of the accessory power fuse block front wiring harness electrical connector from the negative cable connector. Start by removing the negative cable clip first from the positive cable clip and from the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt. After that, raise and suitably support the vehicle. Before vehicle lifting for 8.1l engine servicing start by removing the Battery Cable clip from the positive cable clip followed by engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt removal. Next reposition the wiring harness ground and negative cables. Before vehicle lowering remove the forward lamp wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt then lower the vehicle before removing the negative Battery Cable. After raising the vehicle position the negative cable along with the forward lamp wiring harness ring terminals on the frame while inserting the anti-rotation tab on the forward lamp wiring harness through the frame hole. Screw the forward lamp wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt with a torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in) after placing the engine wiring harness ground under the negative cable ground. To install the engine wiring harness ground and negative cables on the 8.1l engine follow these steps: first tighten the ground/negative cable bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) then lower the vehicle to install the negative cable clip on the positive cable clip. Before lowering the vehicle for 4.8l, 5.3l, or 6.0l engines position the negative cable and engine wiring harness ring terminals to the engine block, install the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt, tighten it to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Then install the negative cable clip to the positive cable clip. After connecting the negative Battery Cable to the accessory power fuse block front wiring harness electrical connector one must install the Battery Cable bracket and bolt to the Power Steering Pump where the bolt needs to be tightened to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Reinstalling the left front wheel house panel will be needed if the vehicle configuration supports it.
