Q: How to Replace the Rear (Jounce) Brake Line on Chevrolet Silverado 3500?
A:
Vehicle raising becomes necessary followed by cleaning all foreign matter from the brake hose as well as brake fittings before proceeding with the replacement. Exposure of brake pipe fitting ends requires installation of rubber caps or plugs to stop fluid loss as well as stop contamination. Apply a spare wrench on the brake hose fitting to remove the connecting brake pipe fitting while placing a rubber cap on the brake pipe end. Work on the brake hose by removing the retaining clip from its mounting bracket and extracting the jounce hose from the bracket. After capping or plugging brake pipes with rubber caps install the hose fitting end brake pipes from the junction block on the rear axle. Disassemble the retaining bolt of the junction block from the axle and remove the brake hose out of the service vehicle. To install the rear brake hose position it first and secure the junction block retaining bolt at the axle point by using 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) torque. Connect rear brake pipes into the junction block located on the axle and tighten the fitting to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The hose installation into the bracket must maintain proper alignment without touching any suspension parts. Use a jounce hose retaining clip before disconnecting the rubber cap from the brake pipe fitting to install the brake pipe fitting nut onto the brake hose using a back up wrench while avoiding pipe or bracket bending. Then tighten the fitting to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Check that the hose never touches any suspension components. Take the hose out if it reaches the components and solve the underlying issue. After completing the process you must bleed the hydraulic brake system and then lower the vehicle.
