The replacement process for rear door exterior handles begins with first removing trim panel and water deflector. You should first detach the outside handle rod and the lock cylinder rod that are connected through their clip sections. The outside handle mounting should be taped down to secure the handle before you unscrew the outside handle mounting nuts. Then remove the rubber cover to reach the outboard nut and pull out the
Door Lock Cylinder from the outside handle housing. According to the manual, fit the new handle onto the vehicle frame after taking out the existing handle. Before installing the Door Lock Cylinder into the outside handle housing apply gm p/n 12345120 (Canadian P/N 726548) or a similar lubricating substance to both the lock case interior and the keyway opening of the cylinder. Fasten the lock cylinder rod with its clip followed by attachment of the handle rod to the handle assembly clip. Replace the masking tape on the Door Handle then tighten the outside handle mounting nuts up to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Replace the rubber cover and water deflector along with the trim panel as the last step.
