How to replace the rear Trunk Lid Lift Support on Chevrolet Monte Carlo?

You need to start with supporting and opening the rear compartment before you begin. A small flat-bladed tool should be used to lift the retainer on both ends of the rear compartment strut. Push down with force when you reach the end point of the liftgate/hood rod installation to prevent accidental damage. Take the rear compartment strut off the hinges by removing it from the ball studs. Bring it out of the vehicle. Set the top and bottom of the rear compartment strut onto its ball studs on the hinge, push the bottom ball stud first and then the top into place until the hole seats completely. After those actions install the support back into its place and close the lower and upper strut retainers.
