Chevrolet Monte Carlo Cruise Control Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to adjust the Cruise Control Switch and the stop lamp switch on Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
    A:
You need to remove the left side insulator panel as your first step for adjusting both cruise control release switch and stop lamp switch. First fully press the Brake Pedal and afterward position the switches into their retainers until they reach full engagement position. Press the Brake Pedal all the way to its stop then keep pulling it backward until you hear no more sounds. The cruise control release switch and the stop lamp switch contacts must activate at pedal movements between 3.5 to 12.5 mm (1/8 to 1/2 in) on the pad's centerline while stop lamp switch contacts trigger at 4.5 mm (3/16 in) beyond the cruise control release switch activation. Put back the left side insulator panel as the final step.
  • Q: How to replace the cruise control switch on Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
    A:
In order to replace the cruise control release switch, position the ignition key in off or lock position, as well as ensure all electrical loads are off. If tools may come into contact with live, electrical terminals, disconnect the negative cable of the battery to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage. Be aware that vehicle is equipped with supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system and failure to follow procedure will result in air bag deployment, personal injury or unnecessary repairs. First remove the driver knee bolster panel and then disconnect the electrical connector from the cruise control cruise release switch and a switch out of the retainer in the brake pedal bracket. To install, return cruise control release switch to retainer, reconnect the electrical connector and then adjust the switch, and finally, install the driver side knee bolster panel.
