To remove the Thermostat Housing (L61), start with the use of the j 38185 hose clamp pliers and remove the
Radiator Hose and clamp from around the thermostat pipe assembly. Take off the cooler cap from the surge tank, and empty a container to empty coolant on the left side of the radiator tank. Open the valve using a flat-bladed screwdriver to pass the coolant, lift the car on a hoist. Drain the engine block coolant at the position of the water pump drain and tighten the drain bolt once the coolant has drained. Lower the vehicle and detach the surge tank return hose and clamps on the Thermostat Housing pipe. Remove the attachment bolt from the thermostat bracket assembly to the thermostat pipe assembly, followed by
Exhaust Heat Shield bolts and the Exhaust Heat Shield itself. Remove the electrical connector at the
Coolant Temperature Sensor and o2 sensor connector at the bracket. Remove the heater hoses and clamps that connect to the Thermostat Housing pipes and disconnect the Thermostat Housing bolts that hold it to your car's engine. Tighten the faucet nut to avoid leaking and with the help of a flathead screwdriver turn the water transfer pipe by pulling off the Thermostat Housing then pull off the thermostat assembly form the vehicle. Discard the water transfer pipe o-dam, Thermostat Housing o-dam, and take out the thermostat cartridge and inner sleeve from the Thermostat Housing. Remove any dirt and thread sealant from the engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and bolt holes in the event that the housing is reinstalled. For installation, put the thermostat cartridge into the Thermostat Housing; the cartridge tangs should fit into the bolt hole, align, and insert the inner sleeve notch. Install a brand new thermostat cover seal as well as thermostat cover bolts, which need to be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Install a new Thermostat Housing to engine seal on the thermostat, house, load the assembly in place, and lift the vehicle. Put on light lubrication on the new seals o-seals including coolant after which you install the new o-seals on the water feed pipe after which you put the water feed pipe into the Thermostat Housing matching the locator tab position after which you align the water pipe and the inlet of water pump and you push in the water feed o-seal. Lower the vehicle, and place the Thermostat Housing on the engine while retaining appropriate alignment with the support bracket. Install and tighten the Thermostat Housing-to-block bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.), and install and tighten the thermostat pipe bracket-to-engine bolt to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Then reconnect a plug onto the electrical connector to the sensor of a coolant, o2 sensor, and connect the heater together the inlet, and outlet hoses. Take lower Radiator Hose and clamp, then surge tank return hose to the thermostat pipe and reconnect. Mount the heat shield of the exhaust manifold and fasten it to the car with the bolts tightening 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Make sure the vehicle is leveled during filling the cooling system, ensure the drain valves are closed at the radiator and water pump, and top up the engine coolant. Finally, check the repair and make sure there are no leaks.
