How to replace the rear liftgate hinge on Chevrolet Impala?

You need to take both the rear compartment lid and rear compartment lid struts out first to replace the hinge. Use a grease pencil to indicate the hinge location between vent panel and quarter panel before you detach bolts from the rear compartment hinge. Then remove the hinge from the quarter panel. Closely fit the rear compartment hinge to its matching position on the quarter panel before installing it with rear quarter bolts and tightening them to 18 pounds feet torque. Place back the rear compartment lid along with its struts while adjusting the rear lid hinge when needed.
