The first step when changing the battery positive cable on 4.8l, 5.3l and 6.0l engine models requires removing the bolt that secures the coolant recovery reservoir and moving the tank aside. Begin battery replacement by removing the battery negative cable followed by removal of the battery positive cable from the battery terminal. The positive lead of 4.8l and 6.0l engines should be disconnected from the junction block. Users must disconnect the battery positive cable first from the engine harness clip and second from the engine harness retainer. Rise the vehicle then disconnect the positive cable that feeds the Starter Solenoid. To work on 4.8l and 6.0l engines operators must first dismount the battery positive cable retainer clips and from frame and crossmember then lower the vehicle. First unplug the battery positive lead from the
Fan Shroud then disconnect the positive lead from the generator before taking the cable away from the vehicle while noting the position of the retaining clips. During installation route and install the cable in the correct clips before connecting the positive lead to the generator then fasten the generator output (BAT) nut to a torque of 18 n.m (13 lb ft). First clip the battery positive cable to the Fan Shroud and then raise the vehicle before installing battery positive cable retainer clips to the crossmember and to the frame. The process concludes with battery positive cable to chassis harness clips and their retainer clips during installation. Install and tighten the positive lead to the Starter Solenoid until it reaches 10 n.m torque value (89 lb in) before lowering the vehicle. The battery positive cable needs to be fastened to engine harness retainer and engine harness clip before attaching the positive lead to junction block for engines with 4.8l and 6.0l displacements and tightening junction block nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Connect the battery positive cable to the battery before securing the terminals at 17 n.m (13 lb ft) and proceed to install the negative cable and replace the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank by tightening the bolt to 11 n.m (97 lb in).
