The first step to replacing a Steering Wheel includes setting front wheels in direct alignment while locking the
Steering Column with anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover access. Make alignment marks between the Steering Wheel and
Steering Shaft after removing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module. When loosening the Steering Wheel nut for two complete turns use your fingers to gently pull the wheel from the Steering Column before removing the nut. Guide the electrical connectors (1,3) through the Steering Wheel while removing it in a damage-free manner. Before Steering Wheel installation maintain your front wheels in their direct center position. Position the new Steering Wheel adjacent to the Steering Shaft while orienting the arrow at 12 o'clock then check for correct meshing of wheel teeth with Steering Shaft teeth. When reusing the original Steering Wheel position it properly according to the removal marks while verifying that electrical connectors (1,3) remain unpinched. Screw in the Steering Wheel nut then torque it to 35 nm (26 lb ft). As the final step install the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module while removing the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
