Within the Chevrolet Cobalt vehicles, the Clutch Master Cylinder is important as it supplies a hydraulic pressure in order to operate the clutch on the car once the clutch pedal is pushed down. This component transmits the force exerted by feet to hydraulic pressure which results into slave cylinder to disconnect clutch from the flywheel. Common symptoms of a bad Clutch Master Cylinder are soft pedal, clutch fluid leakage, hard gear shift, and noisy biting point. Cylinder leakage is the frequency of flow of new hydraulic fluid H2 and is attributed to worn seals or cylinder bores that results to rust and moisture in the fluid. The Chevrolet Cobalt vehicles usually include a diagonally split hydraulic system right with unique circuits for pairs of wheels, thereby providing safety in the case of a single failure of the circuit.

Chevrolet Cobalt Clutch Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder (M86) on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
First disconnect the clutch pedal retainer on the front of the assembly then pull the clutch pedal upward until the Pushrod disengages from the pedal. Wipe away the ubec before its removal while using caution to shield painted surfaces and electrical components from brake fluid exposure. A shop towel positioned below the Clutch Master Cylinder should collect fluid while you disconnect both the Clutch Hose and clutch line connected to the cylinder. First cap the hydraulic lines to avoid loss of fluid and contamination before you turn the master cylinder by 1/4 turn clockwise for removal from the vehicle. To install the Clutch Master Cylinder just match the Pushrod to the clutch pedal followed by Clutch Master Cylinder installation using a 1/4 counterclockwise turn. Connect the clutch line along with Clutch Hose into the cylinder after you remove the tank caps for reservoir and hydraulic lines. Progress by installing the new ubec followed by a Pushrod connection to the clutch pedal before reinstalling the clutch pedal retainer. The clutch hydraulic system needs bleeding to finish up the installation procedure.
