Before you work on the Rack And Pinion of a manual transmission vehicle, make sure to raise the car and take off the tires and wheels first. You should pull off the
Power Steering Hoses from the Rack And Pinion, then unbolt and remove the
Tie Rods from the
Steering Knuckle. Next, take out the lower pinch bolt from the intermediate shaft and make sure to support the front suspension crossmember with a jack stand. Before you lower the front suspension crossmember, take off the brake pipes from the retainer on the front suspension support and unbolt the front suspension crossmember. Take out the power steering Rack And Pinion mounting bolts and then take the power steering Rack And Pinion off from the front suspension crossmember. Set the power steering Rack And Pinion onto the front suspension crossmember and turn the power steering Rack And Pinion mounting bolts by hand to hold it in place. Once the front suspension crossmember is up, put in the mounting bolts, then tighten the left rear outboard bolt to 110 nm (71 ft. Lbs.), the right rear outboard bolt to 110 nm (71 ft. Lbs.), the rear inboard bolts to 110 nm (71 ft. Lbs.), and the power steering Rack And Pinion mounting bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Put the lower pinch bolt back into the intermediate shaft, join the brake pipes with the holders on the front suspension crossmember, and connect the
Tie Rod Ends to the Steering Knuckle. Connect the power steering hoses to the power steering Rack And Pinion, put the tire and wheel assemblies back, bleed the power steering system, and set the front wheel alignment.
