These pads are usually metallic and synthetic and they are fairly heat resistant; getting up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit during their normal use. Brake pads have steel backing plates with friction material that gets worn on to the rotor to cause the required friction for braking. Lots of brands of brake pads can be purchased in the market like the non metallic, semi metallic, fully metallic, and the ceramic type, which also has distinguishing characteristics they possess like the friction material, the wear and tear propensity, and even the noice making aptitude. Maintenance and replacement of brake pads are necessary, signal lights in order will turn on to tell the drivers there is a need for new brake pads to support the car's braking system.

Chevrolet Blazer Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Blazer?
    A:
Before replacing the rear brake pads check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. When the level is at or near the middle mark between max and min values no fluid need be removed but when the level surpasses that point use a brake fluid extractor to bring the fluid down. Lift the vehicle and take off the tire wheel unit. Secure the c-clamp on top of the brake caliper housing over the backside of the outboard pad. Gradually build pressure until the piston reaches the caliper bore then remove the clamp. After detaching the brake caliper assembly from its mounting bracket clean both the brake pads and parts with denatured alcohol followed by drying them using filtered non-lubricated compressed air. Check the brake caliper for any issues after taking off the rear brake pads and anti/rattle spring pair along with springs from both mounting blocked and the brake caliper. Replace the old anti/rattle springs and install the new brake pads along with new anti/rattle springs onto the mounting bracket. Connect the brake caliper anti/rattle spring then reinstall the brake caliper unit on its mounting bracket. Bring down your car and refill the Brake Master Cylinder to the right amount. Depress the Brake Pedal from rest gradually until it reaches 2/3 of its total range then lift up slowly. Press the Brake Pedal twice for 15 seconds to push the brake caliper pistons correctly into place. Finally, burnish the new brake pads.
