Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
    A:
To replace the upper intermediate Steering Shaft, make sure the wheels of the vehicle are straight and Steering Column is in lock position to prevent damage to the sir coil assembly. Start with the piece of Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) fitting into the lower access hole of the Steering Column. Mark the relationships between the components such as the bolt and clamp at both ends of the upper intermediate shaft and the relationship between the upper and lower intermediate shafts. After, removing the nut and bolt that fastens the upper part to the lower part on the s shaft, take out the nut and bolt that hold the upper shaft to the Steering Column. Stress down and remove the intermediate shaft from the steering chair and take off the accelerator pedal position sensor. Secondly, shift the upper intermediate shaft towards the instrument panel and pull it away from the lower intermediate shaft, then take it out of the car. For installation, line up the marks done in removal if using the same shaft and install the bottom of the upper intermediate shaft through the bulkhead into the lower shaft. Connect the top end of the upper intermediate shaft to the Steering Column and install the bolt and nut on top end and tighten the nut to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). Proceed and reinstall the accelerator pedal position sensor along with the bolt and nut at the joint of the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft, nut should be snugly fastened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, pull off the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the lower access hole.
