The procedure to disconnect the positive Battery Cable starts with negative cable removal followed by unsnapping the positive cable cap before disconnecting the positive cable. Remove the positive Battery Cable bolt from the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) while remembering that the bolt stays with the cable due to its integral design. First remove any necessary engine sight shield components before releasing the junction block cover to take the positive Battery Cable from its junction block mounting. Car models with 4.8l, 5.3l or 6.0l engines require the removal of the negative cable clip from the positive cable clip followed by vehicle elevation and support and for vehicles equipped with an 8.1l engine, both negative and positive clips need to be removed. The first step includes removing the channel bolt securing the positive Battery Cable before slipping the channel pin from the
Oil Pan tab and extracting the cable from the channel. A technician must first remove the Battery Cable bracket bolt and bracket from the
Power Steering Pump before moving on to remove the positive cable nut and positive cable from the
Starter when working with 4.8l, 5.3l or 6.0l engines. Apply tools to detach the positive cable clip from the Oil Pan and then the positive Battery Cable. The installation requires 8.1l engine technicians to first remove both the positive cable nut and the positive cable from the Starter before moving to the positive cable clip bolt and positive cable from the engine harness clip. The positive Battery Cable installation for 8.1l motors begins with the cable itself then proceeds to the engine harness clip attachment. Fitting and securing the positive cable clip bolt should be performed until it reaches 8 n.m torque (71 lb in) while the subsequent positive cable installation to the Starter requires a torque on the positive cable nut set to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The positive Battery Cable installation process requires first coupling the cable to the Oil Pan clip before affixing it to the Starter where the positive cable nut needs a tightening torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in). Install the Battery Cable bracket then mount its bolt to the Power Steering Pump where tightening should reach 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Screw in the positive Battery Cable while setting it into the channel before sliding the channel pin to the Oil Pan tab and finishing with the positive Battery Cable channel bolt installation at 12 n.m (106 lb in). Vehicle position must be lowered while installers should fasten negative cable clips to positive cable clips when working on 8.1l engines as well as on 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines. The positive Battery Cable should be inserted into the junction block and then install the junction block cover while optional engine sight shield reattachment may be required. The positive cable bolt at the ubec requires 9 n.m (80 lb in) torque before the positive Battery Cable installation with a torque of 17 n.m (13 lb ft) and final closure of both positive Battery Cable caps and negative Battery Cable application.
