The Steering Knuckle is one of the company's important and impressive parts that must fully reflect the Cadillac's reliability and performability. Being an interconnection unit between the suspension category and the steering category, the Steering Knuckle helps in the movement of the front wheels for providing both the stability as well as the handling. This component operates depending on the car model and can support both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and front, all, four-wheel drive (FWD, AWD, 4WD) layouts, so this component has an extensive compatibility with Cadillac STS models. Steering Knuckle: While the Original Cadillac Kingpin Design shifted abruptly in the vertical and lowest plane to respond to the customer's mentioning, modern Ball Joint Systems in Cadillac's Steering Knuckle provide independent control of the vertical and horizontal movement of the wheel in response to road conditions to enhance performance, as well as safety of the car on the road. It is an important component since the Steering Knuckle significantly affects the car's performance during operations; therefore, frequent inspection and maintenance would be ideal for the vehicle. Interestingly, Steering Knuckle is designed for day to day use and at the same time offer smooth riding quality, which is the Cadillac trait. Also, complex capabilities that are added to Steering Knuckle include better stability control, and improved mounting locations of control arms and tie-rod ends in the cars' suspension system. In view of the above discussion on Steering Knuckle, he part not only optimizes the performance and safety of Cadillac STS vehicle but also boosts Cadillac brand as a brand that aims at delivering luxury vehicles with superior features.

Cadillac STS Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in the rear suspension on Cadillac STS?
    A:
The process starts with vehicle suspension and tire wheel removal before continuing to strip off the rear brake rotor. First separate the wheel driveshaft nut by removal then discard it before disconnecting the antilock brake system (ABS) sensor harness connector and the abs sensor harness connector from the backing plate. The Parking Brake Cable bracket must be unbolted from the knuckle before removing the Parking Brake Cable away from the parking brake lever. Remove initially the upper Ball Joint mounting nut before you separate the ball stud from knuckle using a Ball Joint remover (J 43631). Separate the lower Control Arm by jack support and remove the listed bolts containing the lower shock mounting bolt, trailing arm to knuckle mounting bolt and nut and lower Control Arm to knuckle mounting bolt and adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt. The drive axle requires the axle remover (J 45859), cj129 universal hub puller - snap-on or 7394 universal hub puller - otc installed to separate wheel bearing/hub assemblies. Begin by using the axle remover (J 45859) to free the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub. Next remove the knuckle from the vehicle before removing wheel bearing/hub bolts. Separate the knuckle and backing plate from the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Weld the knuckle to the wheel bearing/hub after which attach appropriate wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts and tighten to 125 n.m (92 lb ft). Begin fastener tightening with the adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt at 160 n.m (118 lb ft) then proceed to the trailing arm to knuckle mounting bolt and nut at 170 n.m (125 lb ft) and afterward the lower shock mounting bolt at 150 n.m (111 lb ft). Route the upper Ball Joint to the knuckle before placing the upper Ball Joint mounting nut. Reinstall the Parking Brake Cable bracket on the knuckle, take away the jack and then attach the abs sensor electrical connectors to both the backing plate and sensor. Use a new wheel drive shaft nut which should be torqued to 160 n.m (118 lb ft) before reattaching the brake rotor, tire, and wheel when you lower the vehicle.
