  Starting with rear bumper fascia removal is necessary for replacing a rear object sensor. Remove the electrical connector from the rear object sensor before you use pliers to lift the housing locking tabs which enables the removal of the sensor unit. Press the spring to separate it from the housing before you release the housing tabs to take out the rear object sensor. The replacement of the rear object sensor requires pushing the bezel through the fascia. While installing the rear object sensor you should paint it but avoid finishing any existing sensor paint. A paint thickness gage suitable for non-ferrous metals should measure paint thickness on the rear object sensor to verify it remains below 6 mils. Press the keyhole onto the key while setting the rear object sensor bezel level with the fascia surface. Fit the housing securely into cutouts found on the bezel from behind the fascia then place the spring inside the housing by positioning spring keys correctly at its top and bottom. Connect the decoupling ring to the sensor before inserting it through the housing where the connector should face the passenger side of the fascia. Once inserted press the sensor tabs into the housing cutouts. Refasten the rear bumper fascia while connecting the electrical connector to the rear object sensor.
