Before replacement of the right side Exhaust Manifold the heated
Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) needs to be uninstalled. Fully raise the vehicle with support before removing the
Catalytic Converter to Exhaust Manifold nuts like the 1500 series (similar procedure for 2500 series). First lower the vehicle near the wheel opening and defeat the
Spark Plug Wires by placing a 1/2 twist on each wire boot and then gently pulling on the boot. Perform the same boot-twisting and pulling process for the
Spark Plug Wires leading to the
Ignition Coils. Remove both components (419 and 420) from the engine block consisting of the oil level indicator tube bolt and the oil level indicator tube. Pull out the Exhaust Manifold bolts then remove both bolts and the Exhaust Manifold from the engine block before discarding the Exhaust Manifold Gasket and seal. The procedure of Exhaust Manifold replacement requires dissassembly of both heat shield bolts and shield while doing so. After placing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield correctly begin assembling it with bolts while tightening to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Use gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) threadlock on the Exhaust Manifold bolts by applying it around the threads in a 5 mm (0.2 in) wide band. Deal with the engine as previously mentioned until step 7 when you will use a new Catalytic Converter seal and place the new Exhaust Manifold Gasket together with the Exhaust Manifold onto the cylinder head while making sure the Catalytic Converter seal remains in its appropriate position. Starting from the center bolts users should tighten the Exhaust Manifold bolts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) while alternating between sides before achieving a final torque of 20 n.m (15 lb ft) with the same side-to-side pattern. A flat punch should be used to bend the gasket tab which exists at the gasket's rear section around the cylinder head's surrounding edge. Before installing the oil level indicator tube (420) and tightening bolt (419) to 25 n.m (18 lb ft), inspect o-ring seal (421) and replace it if damaged and lubricate it with clean engine oil. Reinstall the Spark Plug Wires to their respective spark plugs and ignition coils with a correct fitting method using a side-to-side boot check for proper seating. Secure the vehicle at its full height before installing the Catalytic Converter to Exhaust Manifold nuts followed by a torque of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Finally, install the ho2s.
