Disabling the sir system, first remove and replace the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. To avoid breaking the sir coil assembly, ensure the wheels of the vehicle are parallel with each other and
Steering Column is in the lock position before disconnecting the Steering Column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Use the Steering Column antirotation pin (J 42640) to ensure that it is in place or Ignition Switch is in lock position. Remove the Steering Wheel from the
Steering Shaft, pull out the tilt lever for those equipped for tilt column, then remove the bottom and top trim covers. Detaching the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness, remove the retaining ring and dispose of sir coil from the Steering Shaft if partware, taking it out to be replaced. Installation, ensure the new sir coil assembly has been centered while the wheels are straight ahead with the Steering Column in the lock position. Drop or slide, as the case may be, the sir coil into place on the horn tower of the turn signal cancel cam assembly and fasten the retaining ring down into the retaining groove. Remove and do away with the centering tab on your new sir coil and secure upper trim cover and screw to a tightening of 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) and install the lower trim cover and make sure the tabs telescope and tighten the screws to the required specification. For tilt column vehicles, align and slid the tilt lever handle into the Steering Column and lock, attach the Steering Wheel to your Steering Shaft lastly, turn the sir system on.
