How to replace the water pump on Cadillac DeVille?

Start by draining the cooling system before you detach the upper filler panel and air cleaner assembly with its oil level indicator tube nut. Unscrew the Water Pump belt shield fasteners and take off the accessory. Disconnect both parts with the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) first by taking off the Water Pump Drive Belt and detaching the radiator outlet hose from the Thermostat Housing. Take out the Water Pump cover bolts and remove the Water Pump cover. After disconnect the heater return hose from the Water Pump. Connect the Water Pump remover and installer (J 38816-A) directly to the Water Pump locking ears then secure the support plate into the water housing crossover to achieve correct alignment. Twist j 38816-a to take the pump out of the housing and then remove the Water Pump from the vehicle by taking away the support plate first. Wash the crossover mating surface and pump cover before checking the Water Pump condition. To install the seal correctly position it in the recess of the water crossover with notched locking ear at the 7 o'clock position and the Water Pump locking ears lining up with the tangs in water crossover. Fit the j 38816-a tool to Water Pump locking ears and tighten the tool counterclockwise to reach 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) on the Water Pump. Put the Water Pump cover onto the heater return hose then position the components together before tightening the Water Pump cover bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The hose clamp pliers (J 38185) enable you to join the radiator outlet hose to the Thermostat Housing while also placing and fastening the Water Pump belt shield with its bolts tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). At the end tighten the oil level indicator tube nut to 10 nm while installing air cleaner, upper filler panel, and filling the cooling system.
