The automatic transmission shifter servicing starts with console trim plate and left side console trim plate removal. Start the shifter service by first removing the anti-theft plate together with its tamper proof fastener from the shift position using the tamper proof tool J43146 only if the vehicle has T1A RPO Code. The procedure requires separation of the shift cable terminal from its position joined to the shifter pin followed by removal of the shift cable bolt and cable from the shifter assembly. The BTSI wire harness connector should be disconnected from the BTSI solenoid before pulling the park lock cable out of its shifter slot. First disconnect the park lock cable from the park lock cam then remove the shifter fasteners followed by separating the shifter backlight wire harness connector. Open the console side panels to remove the shifter assembly through its width. The installation requires you to re-open the console side panels followed by shifter assembly placement before you secure the specified-torque shifter fasteners. After the shifter backlight wire harness connector connection the park lock cable should be placed into the park lock cam while ensuring the cable locking tab stays securely locked. Fasten the BTSI solenoid wire harness connector and amount the shift cable terminal onto the shifter pin and secure the shift cable to the shifter by tightening its fastener to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). To adjust the shift cable engage neutral position then loosen the shifter adjuster nut before securing it at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The anti-theft plate along with tamper proof fastener needs to be installed with J43146 tamper proof bit when RPO Code (T1A) is present. Put on the left side console trim plate last along with the console trim plate.

The first step for changing the shift lever in the automatic transmission is to take off the Steering Column trim covers. Then, pull the seal back from the shift lever to see the torx(R) head shift lever screw, take out the screw and unplug the shift lever electrical connector. When this is done, take the shift lever out of the Steering Column. When installing, put the shift lever on the Steering Column and attach the shift lever electrical connector. Refer to the fastener notice, put in the torx(R) head shift lever screw and make it tight with 20 n.m or 15 lb ft of torque. When you have finished, cover the torx(R) head shift lever screw with the seal and set the trim covers back on the Steering Column.
