To change the rear wheel drive shaft outer joint and boot, follow the list of tools to bring: Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35566) and Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers (J 42572). Start by tearing the wheel drive shaft bar with side cutters and remove the small seal clamp disposed of, make sure you don't cut to the wheel drive shaft trilobal tripot bushing. Then, unscrew the big seal clamp of the tripot joint with side cutters and throw it away. After removing the wheel drive shaft outboard seal from the trilobal tripot in the bushing, slide the seal away from the joint, along the wheel drive shaft bar. Remove the housing of the tripot joint spider from the wheel drive shaft bar tripot keeping the correct relationship of that is 60-degree offset relationship between the inner and the outer tripot spiders by marking at their correct position. Carefully tap around the tripot spider face with a brass drift and hammer compressing the barrel retaining ring and then tripot spider discard the barrel retaining ring. Check the tripot joint spider assembly, housing and trilobal tripot bushing for damages or wear as well. For assembly, cover the small end of the joint seal with a new small seal clamp and push them both onto the wheel drive shaft bar, making sure that the small end of the joint seal reaches the groove. Crimp the small seal retaining clamp with the use of Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers ( J 42572) and wrench to turning it to 136 N.m (100 lb ft). Replace a new barrel retaining ring with 60 degrees offset and position the reference mark on the tripot spider in accordance with the wheel drive shaft bar. Mount the tripot spider compressing the barrel retaining ring and ensuring positive engagement. Put grease from the service kit bearing, used to pack the wheel drive shaft outboard seal, and stuff the housing. Install trilobal tripot bushing to the housing with spring and guide after using the grease to retain them. Mount the larger new seal retaining clamp at the wheel drive shaft outboard seal, slip the housing over the tripot joint spider assembly, and make sure the seal is the right shape. Adjust the wheel drive shaft outboard seal, tripot housing, and large seal retaining clamp, and latch the large seal retaining clamp using the Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35566), engage latching tangs fully. Finally, rotat the outer tripot housing several times to apply grease all over the tripot spider bearings.
