- Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on 2010 Cadillac SRX?A: First inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir before changing the rear disc brake pads. If it is on the point mid way between top and bottom no need to remove but if it is up then take it down to the mid way point. Release the electronic park brake cable tension, raise and support the vehicle then remove the tire, and wheel assembly. Apply a c-clamp to the outer Brake Pad and the rear-side of the brake caliper body in order to compress the Brake Caliper Piston to the brake caliper bore. Do not use air tools to work down the guide pin bolts; instead, hand tools and an open-end wrench should be employed to hold the caliper guide pin as you remove the lower brake caliper guide pin bolt. Supports the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire to avoid breaking the hydraulic flexible brake hose. Do that with the brake caliper by lifting it up and removing the outer Brake Pad, inner Brake Pad, and Brake Pad springs. If you are replacing the brake pads, take out the old springs and adjust the new ones. After that, put in the Brake Pad springs, outer Brake Pad and inner Brake Pad, then place the brake caliper in proper position. With a back up wrench, install the brake caliper guide pin bolt and tighten to 60nm (44 lb ft). Replace the tire and wheel assembly while the engine is off, and slowly push on the Brake Pedal to around 2/3 of its travel, a gradual release, repeat this procedure until the Brake Pedal pressure is strong. Top up the brake master cylinder reservoir to the required level and adjust the electronic park brake cable tension. Lastly, polish brake pads and rotors.
