First inspect the steering linkage inner Tie Rod for corrosion and contamination before replacing it on a two mode hybrid vehicle. Because it enables the steering gear rack to remain stationary one person cannot replace the passenger side inner Tie Rod therefore both technicians are needed for this procedure. Extraction of the steering linkage inner Tie Rod washer from the inner Tie Rod needs to be done while avoiding any modification in steering gear preload adjustment to prevent damage to components. Twist the steering linkage inner Tie Rod counterwise and keep the steering gear rack static until the rod disconnects from the gear rack before noting the washer installation order for reassembly. Place the new steering linkage inner Tie Rod washer on the assembly with the identical orientation as the previous washer. A proper cleaning procedure must be completed before applying loctite(R) 262 or equivalent to the inner Tie Rod threads. Hand-tighten the inner Tie Rod onto the steering gear rack before securing it to 145 nm with wrench (CH-49009). You should position the new washer so its flats fit on the inner Tie Rod surface and subsequently bend the tabs across the flats. Fold the boot of the steering gear opening while applying suitable grease to its small end before reattaching it.
