2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The first step to change automatic transmission fluid and filter requires raising and supporting the vehicle according to protocol. Proceed with removing the Catalytic Converter when necessary. A drain pan should go under the transmission oil pan which requires removal of the Drain Plug if it exists. Keeping the cable attached to the range selector bracket release the bolts only if needed to create space for dropping the pan. Use a socket wrench to remove all front and side bolts from the oil pan before loose-fitting the rear bolts by four turns. A rubber mallet should be used for minimal taps to drain oil from the pan before complete bolt removal of the pan with its gasket. You need to firmly twist the filter while holding it then remove the filter seal which should be discarded if it remains stuck. Check both the fluid appearance and filter for clutch material and both bronze slivers together with steel particles. Apply solvent to clean both transmission case and Oil Pan Gasket surfaces to remove all old gasket material from both surfaces. Soak the new filter seal in automatic transmission fluid before putting it into position within the transmission case by using a suitable socket for installation. First install the new filter and afterward place the oil pan with its new gasket before tightening all bolts with equal torque to 11 nm (97 lb in). Reinstall the range selector cable bracket before tightening it to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Install the oil pan Drain Plug with a small application of gm p/n 12346004 sealant to its thread then tighten it to 18 nm (13 lb ft). The installation process begins with placing the Catalytic Converter and lowering the vehicle while filling the transmission with dexron(R) vi transmission fluid before checking the cold fluid level only for the first fill amount. Examine the Oil Pan Gasket for potential leaking conditions during the completion of this process.
