2009 Chevrolet HHR Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The procedure to install the positive Battery Cable starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Start by removing the carpet and then proceed with taking out the instrument panel tie bar and the spare tire along with its insulator. Begin by opening the positive Battery Cable cover and untighten the positive cable nut. After detaching the cable from the battery you can proceed. Along with the clips on the positive Battery Cable you must disconnect both the positive Battery Cable connector electrical body harness from the connector. Extract the positive Battery Cable clips from two locations on body harness components and the rear compartment panel studs. The driver side upper metal clip and driver side only retainer have to be separated from the sound barrier to dash panel while the sound barrier gets repositioned for positive Battery Cable access. First pull the positive Battery Cable off the body harness connectors while also detaching the rubber grommet at the dash front. At the junction block open the terminal cover to remove the junction terminal nut while extracting both Battery Cable terminals from their respective studs starting with positive and negative ones. Next, take the engine compartment portion of the positive Battery Cable through the front of the dash before pulling it out of the vehicle. Alongside this, remove the positive Battery Cable clips from the ecm/tcm bracket as well as from the body harness clip. To install the cable start by putting your positive Battery Cable into the vehicle through the dash front opening before routing the engine compartment piece. You should first connect the cable to body harness clip before installing its corresponding clips onto the ecm/tcm bracket. Secure the positive Battery Cable terminal on the junction block stud while connecting its positive/negative terminal to the same stud and tighten the junction block terminal nut to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Secure both Battery Cable clips on the body harness before you install the rubber grommet followed by the junction block terminal cover. The driver side dash panel sound barrier needs to be positioned properly while its fasteners are secured then install the positive Battery Cable mounts to the floor panel studs following the rear compartment panel studs installation. Attach the electrical connector of the body harness to the positive Battery Cable connector then install the Battery Cable to its position while tightening the positive Battery Cable nut to 15 nm (11 lb-ft). Leave enough space to close the positive Battery Cable cover when this is done. The last steps are to reposition the spare tire insulator together with the spare tire and instrument panel tie bar while installing the carpet before properly reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
