- Q: How to replace the radiator on 2009 Cadillac STS?A: A Radiator replacement starts with draining all coolant from the system. The electric cooling fan assembly should be taken out next. Support the vehicle at a height while you detach lower and upper condenser bolts to move the condenser aside before removing Transmission Oil Cooler bolts. Uninstall the lower retainer pins on the side air baffle connected to the Radiator by lowering the vehicle first. Afterwards remove the bolts from the Radiator support bracket and the actual brackets. The tool j 38778 will be used to remove the Radiator/condenser upper support while j 38185 disconnects the surge tank inlet hose from the Radiator before moving it to an aside location. The j 38185 tool allows technicians to remove vessel inlet and outlet rubber hoses from the Radiator after the tool releases clamp tension. Also remove the side air baffle's upper retaining pins from the Radiator to finish Radiator removal. To install the new Radiator place it in position while connecting the upper retainer pins of the side air baffle along with the Radiator outlet hose secured with j 38185. Secondly also disconnect the inlet hoses of the Radiator and surge tank using j 38185. Mount the Radiator/condenser upper support together with the Radiator support brackets while tightening support bracket bolts to 9 nm (80 lb in). Set the vehicle at a high point then connect the lower retainer pins of the side air baffle before installing Transmission Oil Cooler mounting bolts and upper and lower condenser mounting bolts with torques set at 5 nm (44 lb in) and 5.4 nm (48 lb in). Lower the vehicle then put back the electric cooling fan assembly while filling the cooling system.
