  • Q: How to Replace an Oil Pan on 2008 GMC Envoy?
A: To remove the Oil Pan, turn off the negative Battery Cable first. Remove the A/C Compressor bottom bolts and take out the top bolts (2 & 3). Remove the oil level indicator and tube, and remove the stabilizer shaft. Remove the bearing for the front drive axle intermediate shaft assembly from the frame as well as detach the front Differential and fix it to the frame. Drain the engine oil and remove the transmission cooler lines from the engine block. Patent and trade the 4 transmitting bell housing bolts linked to the oil bucket as well as un-fasten the balance of Oil Pan bolts. Fasten the Oil Pan using 2 Oil Pan bolts in the jack screws on the Oil Pan and tighten equally to free it from the engine. Check the Oil Pan and inspect it, then apply a 3mm (0.12in) bead of sealer to the block. Put on the Oil Pan, make sure it does not obstruct the Oil Pump and the screen assembly, and then fasten the Oil Pan bolts. Check the alignment of the Oil Pan by using a straight edge on the back of the block, and the Oil Pan transmission mounting surface. Tighten the bolts on the sides of the Oil Pan by 25 n. M (18 lb ft) and the end bolts by 10 n.m (89 lb in). Replace the 4 transmission bell housing bolts and tighten them to 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Clip the lines of the transmission cooler to the engine block, then to install the front drive axle intermediate shaft bearing assortment. Replace the oil drain plug and filter, than front Differential to the engine. Reinstall the stabilizer shaft and the A/C Compressor bottom bolts, torquing all 4 bolts (2, 3, 4) to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Lastly, install the oil level indicator and tube, reconnect the negatively charged Battery Cable, check the engine for possible oil leaks, and add oil into the engine.
