2008 Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to replace the clutch pilot bearing and what are the steps involved in the process on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Maintaining a replacement of the clutch Pilot Bearing requires j 38836 bushing installer and clutch arbor (J 38836) and j 43276 clutch Pilot Bearing remover (J 43276). Start your replacement work by taking out the clutch assembly. The use of the j 43276 clutch Pilot Bearing remover demands a wrench holding the j 43276-1 tool body to avoid rotation so the tool remains undamaged. The j 43276 clutch Pilot Bearing remover functions to extract the bearing through a process of installing the j 43276-1 tool into the bearing while securing it with a wrench, followed by inserting the j 43276-2 tool into the j 43276-1. Using the j 43276-2 rotate its working mechanism clockwise to extract the Crankshaft bearing entirely. Afterwards continue by rotating it counterclockwise to disconnect it from the j 43276-1 so the tool body can be cleared of everything. Discard the old Pilot Bearing. To control the depth of the installation the 5/8 inch washer should be placed on the j 38836 tool that serves as a stop against the Crankshaft face. Before installation position the new Pilot Bearing onto the tool body which will later be inserted into the Crankshaft while using the j 38836. Check that the clutch Pilot Bearing touches the Crankshaft rear surface before reinstalling the clutch assembly.
