2008 Chevrolet Corvette Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to replace the crankshaft front oil seal requires removal of the crankshaft balancer. The technician should remove the crankshaft oil seal using gentle force from the front cover. The sealing surface of the oil seal needs to remain unbearably lubricated and the replacement oil seal must not get reused. Clean engine oil should be applied to both the outside of the oil seal and the front cover oil seal bore. Place the crankshaft front oil seal onto the J 41478 (Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer). Insert the J 41478 threaded rod into the crankshaft end with its nut along with washer and guide and oil seal. Then apply the J 41478 to properly position the oil seal within the cover bore. Use handtools to secure the hex on the installer tool followed by clockwise installer nut torque towards the seal for a complete bore seating of the cover. After removing the tool you should check the oil seal positioning to confirm full and even installation. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
