The exhaust replacement procedure for the right side manifold (4.3L) begins with heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) removal along with Catalytic Converter-to-Exhaust Manifold nut removal. Lower the vehicle and remove the Exhaust Manifold heat shield bolts before taking off the shield. You must first remove the spark plugs from their sockets after which you can rearrange Spark Plug wire locations. Next unfolded the Exhaust Manifold bolts and extracted the Exhaust Manifold together with accompanying gaskets before discarding the gaskets. Keep the Exhaust Manifold to Catalytic Converter seal as well before discarding it during this step. You should first install the new Exhaust Manifold to Catalytic Converter seal within the Exhaust Manifold before positioning the Exhaust Manifold while you install its manifold studs onto the Catalytic Converter. The new Exhaust Manifold gaskets should go between manifold and Cylinder Head while you install Exhaust Manifold bolts and stud using a torque of 30 n.m (22 lb ft). You should reposition the Exhaust Manifold heat shield onto the manifold before installing the bolts which need to be tightened to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The vehicle needs to stay lifted during the installation process of the Catalytic Converter to Exhaust Manifold nuts with a recommended torque force of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Put the vehicle back on the floor afterward.
