2007 Chevrolet HHR Rod Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the connecting rod bearing on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Tools needed to service and to repair the connecting Rod Bearing are: connecting rod guide pin (J 43953), piston ring compressor (J 43953), connecting rod guides (J-43966-1), and angle meter (J 45059). Start with the removal of the Oil Pan and the Cylinder Head. In case there is a presence of ring ridge, then turn the crank shaft to bottom out the Piston and cover it with cloth while using the ridge reamer to clear the ridge. The following action will be turning the Crankshaft; the Piston is at the top of the stroke you remove the cloth and the cutting debris and check in ensuring you mark the connecting rods and the caps for reassembling. Then unscrew the nuts and cap from the connecting rod, discard the bolts and nuts, and pull the connecting rod and Piston out of the engine block using the given tools j 41742 and j-43966-1. Scrub the bores with hot water and detergent or light honing, and after that swab them with engine oil and a dry cloth. For installation, oil the Piston, piston rings, cylinder bore, and the bearing surfaces with engine oil. Install the Piston in the original top bore using j-43966-1, j-43953, and j-41742, tapping the top of the Piston gently with a wooden hammer handle. Make sure the stamped mark on the Piston faces the front of the engine and guide the connecting rod guide pin (J 43953) and solidly push against the engine block until all the Piston rings reach inside the cylinder bore. Install the connecting rod caps on their original connecting rods, with the previously marked numbers align, and install new connecting rod bolts and nuts. Tighten the nuts uniformly to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) on the first pass, and then using the angle meter (J 45059), tighten the nuts a further 100-degrees on the final pass. Check the connecting rod side clearance using a feeler gauge and it should be between 0.070-0.370mm (0.0027-0.0145in), reattach the Cylinder Head and Oil Pan.
