2007 Chevrolet Aveo Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the manual steering rack and pinion on 2007 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The first step starts by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable while turning the wheels until they point forward. Start by undoing the intermediate shaft and front tires and outer tie rod hex nuts. Begin Ball Joint separation by removing hex nuts from each Ball Joint and disconnecting the stabilizer shaft from the knuckle through removal of its link assembly. The next step involves removing the cross member through underbody nuts and bolts before you detach the Rack And Pinion assembly from its retaining bracket. Install the Rack And Pinion assembly through retaining bracket nuts then tighten these nuts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Secure the cross member into position and fasten its nuts and bolts to a torque of 150 n.m (111 lb ft). Attach the knuckle-side Ball Joint hex nuts at 45 n.m (33 lb ft) torque before uniting the stabilizer shaft bolts also at 45 n.m (33 lb ft) torque to the knuckle point. Begin by tightening the outer tie rod hex nuts to 45 n.m (33 lb ft), then proceed with installing the front tires and intermediate shaft and steering wheel and column. End this repair by inspecting the vehicle then measuring wheel alignment before adjusting the front toe when needed.
