2006 GMC Envoy Brake Disc Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2006 GMC Envoy?
A: First check brake fluid levels in the master cylinder. If fluid stands at least halfway between top and bottom marks remove it. Raise the vehicle and remove the tire and wheel assembly. Apply a large c-clamp (specific brand not required) onto the brake caliper housing to push back the pistons until you can uninstall the caliper. Take off the rear brake caliper mounting bracket and brakes disc retaining clips. You need both tools slide hammer (J 2619-01) and rotor removal tool (J 46277) to extract the fixed Brake Disc from the hub assembly by inserting the tool through its friction surfaces. Before taking out the Brake Disc check and clean its related mating parts from rust and unwanted debris. To prepare the contact area for resurfacing use the Wheel Hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) before checking the park brake parts for damage. Use denatured alcohol to clean park brake shoes before blowing them dry with non-oil filtered air. Apply high-temperature silicone brake oil directly to the contact zone. Readjust the park brake according to marks when installing it directly onto the axle flange. Press the Brake Disc onto the axle as you turn it and then reinstall all parts including the mounting bracket, tire, wheel, and lower the vehicle. Put fluid into the brake master cylinder when needed then press the brake pedal to position brake pads before finishing the replaced or renewed brake discs.
