2006 Buick Lucerne Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
A: Before changing the front brake hose, raise the car and take off the tire and wheel. Wash any dirt off the brake hose and all brake pipe fittings, then fit a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting so fluid isn't lost or gets dirty. Take the brake pipe fitting off the brake hose, and then use a flat-bladed tool to pry the retainer away. Remove the brake hose from both the bracket and the brake caliper, and throw out the two copper hose gaskets that could be stuck on the caliper or hose end. Put a rubber plug in the brake hose bolt opening of the caliper so fluid does not leak out. Take out the hose bracket bolt from the strut assembly and pull the hose off. When you install the hose, take out the rubber plug from the caliper, fit new copper gaskets to the brake hose bolt, and screw on the gaskets as well. Put the brake hose bolt in the caliper and make sure to tighten it to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.), so there is no twisting or kinking of the hose. Join the brake hose to the bracket, and then put the hose retainer in place. Take off the rubber cap from the brake pipe and attach it to the brake hose, tightening it until you've reached 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Install the hose bracket and bolt onto the strut assembly, and make sure to tighten it to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). After that, bleed the brake caliper using the bleeder screw, then put the wheel and tire back on the car.
