2006 Buick LaCrosse Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front parking brake cable on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Vehicle maintenance requires users to perform the following tasks for front park brake cable replacement: support the vehicle while raising it and relieve brake cable tension at the park brake equalizer. First disconnect the front connector from the cable and then remove the cable through the equalizer and guide before lowering the vehicle. The initial steps include taking off the left side closeout/insulator panel together with the lower center pillar panel from the left side and left side carpet retainers. You need to fold the carpeting to reach the front park brake cable where you can remove its retaining clip along with the cable button from the clevis. A 13 mm box-end wrench will allow you to separate the cable retainer that fastens the cable to the pedal assembly bracket. Then you can extract the front cable from the vehicle while marking the cable route and path for future installation. Installation involves guiding the front cable into the vehicle space that was observed during removal then putting it into the bracket on the park brake assembly before connecting the cable button end to the clevis with its retaining clip. The installer should arrange carpeting in position before mounting the left side carpet retainers together with the lower center pillar panel and left side closeout/insulator panel. When raising the vehicle for a second time you should guide the front park brake cable through all guides before placing its end inside the equalizer. Connect the front park brake cable to the rear cable across the connector clip before you tighten the equalizer to eliminate cable slack. Then lower the vehicle and adjust the park brake system.
