How to Replace the Right Rear Parking Brake Cable on Cars with Rear Disc Brakes and Without RPO NYS on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

The right rear park brake cable replacement requires releasing the park brake followed by raising and blocking the vehicle on vehicles which have rear disc brakes without RPO NYS installed. Drivers of all 15 series vehicles must first pull down the park brake cable in front of the equalizer before extracting the right cable from its bar position. For 25/35 series vehicles, both automatic adjuster and cable detachment must occur at the equalizer. Start by removing the bolt attached to the rear axle clip before using your fingers to remove the cable from both the differential clip and mounting bracket through the pressed locking tabs. The procedure for backing plate cable extraction starts with spring compression through lever pushing then locking tab depression to extract cable housing out of the backing plate before pulling cable through its plate slot. You will now proceed to remove the park brake cable from the lever before taking the cable out of the vehicle. Start by installing the cable to the vehicle and continue with connecting the park brake cable to the lever. The backing plate installation process requires compressing the spring toward the lever then placing the cable through the plate slot before pushing the cable housing into the backing plate until locking tabs snap into position. Finally, secure the cable to the mounting bracket through the locking tabs engagement. Tighten the bolt connecting the cable to the differential clips to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
