2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Fuse Box Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the underhood fuse box on 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The process to replace underhood electrical center or junction block begins with disconnecting both negative Battery Cable and positive cables from underhood Fuse block terminals. When working on the base of the underhood Fuse block remove the tape to gain access to the wiring harness and release the clip retainers from the underhood Fuse block using a small flat-bladed tool. Remove the base of the underhood Fuse block by lifting the block together with the wiring harness and remove the nuts that attach the base to the shock tower. A small flat-bladed tool should be utilized to detach underhood Fuse block lower front terminal positive assurance retainers while also clearing plastic shields that cover Battery Cable and buss bar terminals. The buss bar jumper bar requires its bolts to be removed and the jumper bar needs to be extracted from the Fuse block. A terminal releasing tool combined with Fuse block Fuse removal allows access to the buss bars terminal release tabs. Make the vehicle free of the Battery Cable and buss bar terminals prior to potentially removing the Fuse block and lamp wiring harness from the vehicle. To install the underhood Fuse block(s) position Battery Cable and buss bar terminals until they achieve full seating and securely push the buss bars into the Fuse block(s) until they are tight. Next install the positive assurance retainers that secure the underhood terminal block before putting back all removed fuses. Fasten the buss bar jumper bar in position by screwing in bolts while tightening them up to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Insert the Battery Cable and buss bar terminals into the plastic shields until the components fully seat. Position the underhood Fuse block(s) into the retaining locks of the base then press them in until they are securely fixed. You should place the base to the shock tower and install the nuts before securing them at 9 n.m (80 lb in). The positive battery cables need to be connected to the underhood Fuse block followed by tightening nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) before reinstallation of the negative Battery Cable.
