2005 Chevrolet Impala Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The negative battery cable replacement process starts with disconnecting the negative then the positive cable. Begin by taking off the frame ground wire bolt and ground wire followed by the remote positive stud cover. Start by removing the positive cable junction block lead nut followed by unhooking the positive battery cable from the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Start by raising and supporting the vehicle before cutting off the front lower air deflector. First detach the transaxle stud nut and ground wire from the transaxle stud and then move on to dislodging the positive battery cable nut from the starter motor BAT terminal before you can remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor BAT terminal. The battery cable harness must be unclipped from its retainers (2,3,4) before getting taken out of the car. Pull out the negative battery cable from its position inside the wiring harness conduit. First install the negative battery cable into the wiring harness conduit before mounting the battery cable harness to retainers (2,3,4). Fasten the positive battery cable's end at the starter motor BAT terminal and use the positive battery cable nut to tighten it while maintaining a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Attach the ground wire followed by the transaxle stud nut and tighten them to 45 N.m (33 lb ft). Afterward attach and tighten the front lower air deflector. Tension the positive cable junction block lead nut against the underhood accessory wiring junction block until it achieves 10 N.m torque (89 lb in). Screw the remote positive stud cover and ground wire onto the frame using a bolt that needs tightening to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Finish by joining the positive cable and tighten its terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 ft lb) then perform the same with the negative cable.
