2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on a 2.2L (L61) engine on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: You need to start by removing the upper air cleaner and duct before taking out the evaporative emission canister purge valve (if present) to change the Power Steering Pump in a 2.2l (L61) engine. Detach power steering fluid lines from the pump before removing the two supporting bolts from the Power Steering Pump. Secure the new Power Steering Pump in position onto the engine by using the two mounting bolts and torque them to 26 n.m (19 lb ft). The power steering hoses need to be reconnected to the pump followed by installation of the evaporative emission canister purge valve (if installed) and return of upper air cleaner along with duct. Add the recommended power steering fluid to the pump before conducting an air bleed procedure of the power steering system.
