2005 Chevrolet Cavalier A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Refrigerant recovery occurs first as a mandatory step before removing the hood latch support. Start by removing the nut which connects the compressor hose assembly to the condenser before detaching this assembly from the condenser and discarding the o-ring seal. Extract both the condenser's evaporator tube and the Radiator air upper seal from the Radiator. Use a screwdriver to remove the three condenser to Radiator bolts then free the condenser tabs from the Radiator clips. When installing the new condenser add the correct amount of refrigerant oil to it then mount it onto the Radiator with proper tab placement into the clips. Install the three condenser to Radiator bolts while tightening them to 4 n.m (36 lb in). Attach the Radiator air upper seal to the Radiator flange before you install the evaporator tube to the condenser. Add a fresh o-ring seal onto the condenser port of the compressor hose and then attach the compressor hose assembly. Tighten the compressor hose assembly fitting nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft) on the condenser. After completing these steps the technician must reinstall the hood latch support and evacuate and charge the a/c system then use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to test component fittings for leaks.
