How to replace the upper control arm on 2005 Cadillac XLR?

Referring to the following point of the procedure, the vehicle will have to be raised to provide support and the tire and wheel assembly removed. Unplug the cable ending of the esc sensor connectors and raise the lower Control Arm using a jackstand. Without removing the nut, loosen the nut on the stud of the ball joint and use the j 42188 ball joint separator (J 42188) to pry apart the upper ball joint stud on the upper Control Arm. After taking out the j 42188 out of the ball joint stud, the ball joint stud nut is removed. Keep in mind that upper Control Arm shims have an impact on camber and caster, hence the shims' thickness should be of equal size for the same upper Control Arm Bushing on both sides. Remove the upper Control Arm bolts and shims and take care their quantity and place for installation then top upper Control Arm to be removed. For installation, connect the upper Control Arm to the vehicle, install the upper Control Arm shims and refer the fastener notice in service precautions. Replace the upper Control Arm mounting bolts to the upper Control Arm and frame rail, tightening them at 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.). Install the upper ball joint stud into the upper Control Arm using an allen wrench to keep it from spinning and tighten the ball joint stud nut using a 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) to seat the nut and turn it an additional 225 degrees. Replace the esc sensor links, remove the jackstand, install the tire and wheel assembly, and lower the vehicle.
