2005 Cadillac STS Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear wheel bearing/hub on 2005 Cadillac STS?
A: Before starting hub and bearing replacement lift the vehicle and place it on stands at the proper height. Extract both the tire and wheel unit and later the brake rotor from the rear section. Take out the wheel speed sensor electrical connector both from the Wheel Hub and the backing plate. Take off the original wheel drive shaft retaining nut and seal the waste. Then uninstall the upper Control Arm to knuckle retaining nut with care. Use the ball joint remover (J43631) to detach the upper Control Arm from knuckle but be careful as you remove Wheel Bearing mounting bolts because touching the outer constant velocity boot seal can harm it. Install the Wheel Hub remover (J45859) to the vehicle and loosen the Wheel Bearing/hub retaining bolts before removing them. Detach the wheel drive shaft from the Wheel Bearing/hub using the Wheel Hub remover (J45859) tool before taking the Wheel Bearing/hub unit off the vehicle. Because the outer cv boot seal needs to stay undamaged, you should not pull tools against it while installing parts. Implement the Wheel Bearing/hub assembly after tightening its fasteners to 125 nm (92 ft. Lbs.). Install the upper Control Arm to its position on the knuckle and tighten the upper ball joint nut to 20 nm and turn the socket 210 degrees. Apply a new wheel drive shaft retaining nut and torque it to 160 nm (118 ft. Lbs.). After installing the brake rotor put in the wheel speed sensor connectors to the backing plate then connect them back. Place the wheel and tire before lowering the vehicle down.
