2005 Cadillac DeVille Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?
A: Start by getting the required tools that include the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to replace the right Timing Chain. The work starts with tensioner removal of the right Timing Chain and continued removal of cmp sensor and right camshaft cover. First align both camshaft sprocket drive pins to their highest possible rotation point. Then position the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts. Free the engine front cover bolt and remove the mechanics wire maintaining the right Timing Chain shoe. An open-end wrench fitted to the hex shape on the camshaft stops its rotation when removing the right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt. Remove the right exhaust camshaft sprocket off the camshaft by sliding it off while detaching the right Timing Chain from the sprocket teeth, allowing it to be lifted from the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth before removal from the engine. Clean all camshaft timing drive parts while inspecting them before sliding down the right Cylinder Head a new right Timing Chain onto the right intake camshaft sprocket and around the outer camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Put the right exhaust camshaft sprocket into the chain before you place it onto the camshaft and make sure the mark re faces the exhaust camshaft pin. Keep the camshaft sprocket bolt at 120 nm with an open-end wrench before locking it to 89 ft. Lbs. Tightness. Put the right Timing Chain tensioner back in place then unfasten the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) and finish by reattaching the right camshaft cover and cmp sensor.
