2005 Buick LaCrosse Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heater Core on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The replacement process starts by draining all coolant from the system. The task requires Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to move the heater hose clamps at the heater core position before disconnecting the corresponding heater hoses. Begin the replacement by removing RH and LH instrument panels and then remove floor carpet and communication interface module. Lift the duct of the rear floor air outlet from the floor reinforcement holes and the heater core outlet cover before removing it. Proceed by removing the screws and heat stakes of the outlet cover with a small chisel after which you can disassemble the cover from the HVAC module assembly. End the procedure by removing the heater core along with its foam seal from the HVAC module assembly after taking out the screws and heat stakes with a small chisel. To start the installation process you should position a new heater core foam seal on the HVAC module assembly while also placing the heater core before using a 5.5 mm (7/32 in) drill bit to create dimples near the heat stakes in the heater core cover. Screw in the heater core cover along with its screws until they achieve 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) of torque. Perform installation and tightening procedures twice for both heater core outlet covers as well as their screws at a torque setting of 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). The installation of the heater core outlet cover on rear floor air outlet duct completes by mounting it into the floor reinforcement. The last step is to place back the floor carpet then reinsert the communication interface module before applying the RH instrument panel closeout/insulator panels. Attach the inlet and outlet heater hoses to the heater core and tighten the clamps using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) before refilling the coolant.
