The vehicle needs its wheels facing frontward and Steering Column in lock mode as an essential safety measure during any work that removes the Steering Column or intermediate shaft connection from the steering gear to protect the sir coil assembly. Install the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) across the column for security. Start with Steering Wheel removal from the Steering Shaft followed by the tilt lever procedure if installed. Remove lower and upper trim covers by unfastening torx(R) head screws. Start by removing the wire harness straps and retaining ring then extracting the air bag clock spring from its place. Replace the air bag clock spring only when necessary then discard the previous unit.
