Begin replacement of the lock cylinder by opening the rear compartment of a monte carlo. You can pull off the lock cylinder retainer and remove the rear compartment lock cylinder alongside its retainer and gasket from the back lid. Put the lock cylinder shaft into its space behind the lid latch and put the rear compartment lock cylinder straight above the gasket into the open hole until it fully seats in place. Press the lock cylinder retainer into its correct position until it fits firmly before closing the rear compartment.
